Before taking the course of Open data, I did not use ORCID for research although I know What DOI it is. ORCID is a very useful tool for researcher to present the publication and connect with other researchers. You can easily find other scientists or their publications in your area because of the unique identifier. This is the biggest merit of it. Comparing with other similar website, like LinkedIn or Researchgate, there are many researcher having the same name and difficult to identify them. But those two website are very strong to establish a social network for researcher.
I also tried the Github-Zenodo integration, They are powerful and can produce DOI and present it automatically. But for an initial user, it could be more friendly. But it is still a good experience.
